Competing voices demand our loyalty. Division shapes our conversations. Fear, frustration, and outrage can quietly influence how we see others, how we speak, and even how we practice our faith.
But what does it mean to remain spiritually awake when the world around us is deeply divided?
Join us for Spiritually Awake in a Divided World, a new preaching series through the book of James. Together, we will examine the hidden compromises that can form within us and discover how genuine faith transforms our character, relationships, words, decisions, and daily lives.
Spiritual awakening is seeing life from God’s perspective and living from that truth.
What This Series Will Address:
Division Without Direction
When trials, uncertainty, and competing loyalties leave us asking, “Why is this happening to me?” James invites us to ask a better question: “What is God revealing through this?”
The Gap Between Belief & Behavior
It is possible to say we believe in love, justice, and equality while our everyday choices reveal something different. Spiritual awakening closes the distance between hearing God’s Word and living it.
Hidden Favoritism
We often elevate people with wealth, influence, status, or shared opinions while overlooking those Jesus calls us to value. James challenges us to examine the partiality we may not want to admit is present.
Faith Without Fruit
Christian faith is more than having the right beliefs. Living faith produces visible fruit through compassion, generosity, service, and obedience.
Words That Wound
Our words can encourage, heal, and restore, or they can destroy reputations, divide communities, and deepen pain. James reminds us that spiritually mature people learn to surrender their speech to God.
Two Worlds, Two Wisdoms
The world teaches us to compete, fight harder, protect ourselves, and win at any cost. God’s wisdom leads us toward humility, mercy, service, gentleness, and peace.
The War Within
Many of the conflicts around us begin with unchecked desires within us: the need to win, to control, to be noticed, or to prove we are right.
Judgement & Mercy
We can easily appoint ourselves as judges of other people while forgetting our own need for grace. James calls us to step down from the judge’s bench and choose mercy.
Burnout From the Fight
Constant outrage, cultural conflict, and the pressure to choose a side in every battle can leave us emotionally and spiritually exhausted. James teaches us how to wait faithfully and trust God’s timing.
The Power of Prayer
In a divided church and nation, it is easy to feel isolated and spiritually disconnected. James reminds us that confession, prayer, community, and restoration are essential to a spiritually awake life.
