Unwrapping and Unleashing Your Spiritual Gifts

It’s quite evident that God uniquely crafted us as believers with different appearances, abilities, backgrounds, opinions, preferences, and passions — the list goes on. What’s important to know is that God made us this way to reflect a beautiful, diverse tapestry within the unified body of Christ. This fact is also reflected in the varied and distinct spiritual gifts He has bestowed upon each believer who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Knowing that the Holy Spirit is the gift giver is essential to each believer’s understanding of any mystery surrounding spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are not earned through our merit, talent, or intellect, but are graciously given to us so we can serve others and give God glory. Every believer can count on being entrusted with one or more spiritual gifts, as stated in 1 Corinthians 12:7: “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” As Christ followers, it’s time to know and cultivate the spiritual gifts entrusted to us so that we can serve in God’s Kingdom and bless others.

Which Gift(s) Have You Been Given?

In 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, Apostle Paul lists various spiritual gifts the Holy Spirit gives: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment of spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues.

He also highlights the significance of these gifts within the body of Christ, reminding us that we are not all gifted the same. Each gift is vital in its own right. He says in 1 Corinthians 12:28-30, “And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, guidance, and different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? See also, Ephesians 4:11.

In Romans 12:6-8, Paul urges Christians to use their gift diligently to advance the Gospel, whether to prophesy, serve, teach, encourage, give, lead, or show mercy. As believers, we are to utilize each gift fervently and joyfully unto the Lord.

As a Difference Maker, God has uniquely equipped you with one or more spiritual gifts tailored for a specific purpose and setting. What gift has God entrusted to you? Where does He want you to use it specifically? Where can you serve in your local church? How can you become more of an influencer for the Kingdom of God?

One day we will stand before God and give an account of how we stewarded our gifts and talents for His Kingdom. He’ll review if we used the gift the Holy Spirit gave us to serve others passionately, consistently, and joyfully. The time to act is now. Unwrap and unleash your gift today! God is depending on you!
