It’s so much easier to believe God and His Word when everything is going well. For example, when we have enough money in the bank to cover our bills, when we are feeling healthy, or when our kids are doing well in school. However, it’s difficult sometimes to believe God when we get a bad report from the doctor, we learn our spouse betrayed us with a hidden sin, or when the promotion we believed for unexpectedly went to someone else.
Here are two absolute truths to help you believe God no matter what circumstances arise: 1) He is faithful, and his promises are “yes and amen” and you can count on them; and 2) We have a number one adversary— satan — who will do everything in his power to defeat us and to get us to stop believing God. (John 10:10)
Sometimes, as children of the Most High, we must remind ourselves who God is. Even the disciples who walked with Jesus for over three years still needed a refresher, even after seeing Jesus turn water into wine, feeding the five thousand and more. Jesus asked the disciples, “Who do you say I am?” (See Matthew 16:15)
In today’s world, there are many different varieties of who or what we should believe in or worship. Many people doubt who Jesus is, considering him only a prophet, a good teacher, or a nobleman. Many don’t think that He is the Son of God, Messiah, and the Savior of humanity. Many people like Jesus’ principles but refuse to acknowledge that He is God and question His authority over heaven and earth. This mode of thought isn’t new; it was prevalent in Jesus’ day. Many people who lived in the first-century, debated who Jesus was and sought to prove Him wrong, even trying to entrap him. In John 8: 42-47, Jesus addressed those who struggled with believing God and His deity in a very “in your face” kind of way.
Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your Father, the devil, and you want to carry out your Father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the Father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guily of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
Here are four unshakeable points to help you always stand in faith and believe in Jesus no matter what comes your way.
Unshakeable point #1: A genuine relationship with God comes through believing in Jesus’s deity as His only begotten Son. It’s not enough for us to think of Jesus as a good teacher or that “man upstairs.” It’s not enough to say “I believe in God” or “I thank God” or even tell others you pray to God, but never acknowledge Jesus and submit to his Lordship over your life.
Unshakable Point #2: A clear understanding of God’s Word comes from connecting with His Son, Jesus. When you connect with Jesus, you can hear his language, understand His will for your life, and obey His commands. Some people may have eyes and ears to hear in the natural but their senses are dull because they remain connected to the world instead of Jesus. On the other hand, when we stay connected to the true vine — Jesus — we have Godly revelation, knowledge, and understanding about all the things that concern us. The Word of God promises to make our path straight and give us unshakable wisdom in every circumstance. (See Psalms 5:8, James 1:5)
Unshakeable Point #3: The lies of Satan blind others from God’s Truth.
Satan’s job is to prevent us from seeing the true light and Savior of the world, Jesus. In John 8:44, Jesus says that satan is the Father of all lies and there is no truth in him.
When we choose to stay connected to the world, we hear satan’s voice instead of Jesus. The Holy Spirit helps us to hear Jesus’ message clearly so we can live a Godly life and learn God’s plan for hope and a wonderful future. (See Jeremiah 29:11)
Unshakeable Point #4: Jesus’s sheep listen to His voice; He knows them, and they follow Him.
When we truly belong to Jesus, we can hear His voice and follow him instead of listening to the enemy’s voice and the world’s ungodly messages. You can check to see if you belong to God by examining whether you are staying in His presence and reading His Word. When you do, you are better able to hear His voice because you are not distracted, and nothing can ever pluck us out of His hand, not even satan himself. When you follow Jesus, nothing can pluck us out of His hand. (See John 10:27)
Here’s the bottom line. When we believe in God and his truthful promises, we will find hope and certainty rather than be gripped by fear and uncertainty about how to live our lives and where we will spend eternity.
Here’s your challenge for this week: Believe God and His promises. Give yourself the assurance you need to navigate your future by spending more time daily in the Word to understand who Jesus is so that you don’t doubt Him or His promises when life challenges come your way. Choose today to live a radical life sold out to Jesus, and boldly share your faith with others who may have never heard about Jesus or who struggle with believing in who He is. When you do, He will continue to bless you in a mighty way because you chose to believe God!
