Have you ever felt like your whole world is falling apart? For example, everything that you had hoped for has died. Maybe it was the physical death of a loved one, a marriage or relationship that fell apart, or even a promising career that suddenly went up in smoke. Sound familiar? If so, you are not alone.
In Luke 7:11-17, we encounter a widow who just lost her only son. Her heart is broken. But, right there in the middle of her grief, loss, and hopelessness, Jesus shows up. As a rulebreaker, He was willing to step in and change what was literally impossible. He changed her story and her future destiny in one moment. That same truth applies today.
Here are three rule breakers to help you see how one command or touch from Jesus can change everything.
Rule Breaker #1: Jesus Sees Us in Our Suffering.
In Luke 7:13, the Bible says, “When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her.”
Jesus stops and watches the widow bury her only son. He understood that her whole world had just crumbled. As a woman with no son, she had no future security or support system. But, right there in the intersection between loss and despair, Jesus sees her and his heart breaks for her. And even today, thousands of years later, Jesus sees everything about you and understands your pain.
Rule Breaker #2: Jesus Can Resurrect Anything or Anyone
Not only did Jesus just observe the situation, He stepped into it. As a rulebreaker, He even broke cultural norms by touching what was considered unclean. In Luke 7:14, Jesus touched the widow’s dead son and said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” Right then, He brought life back into a dead situation. That’s what Jesus does. He brings hope into impossible situations.
Rule Breaker #3: Jesus Transforms Tragedies into Testimonies
What started as a funeral in this story turned into a moment of wonder because a miracle happened. The Bible tells us that the young man sat up, began to speak, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
What started in grief and hopelessness ended in praise.
So, what is the bottom line?
Loss or death doesn’t get the final say. Even in your darkest moment, Jesus has all the power and authority over life and death.
What feels dead in your life right now?
Whatever it is, give it to Jesus. Watch Him restore your peace, strengthen your faith, heal a broken relationship, revive a forgotten dream, and turn your grief into joy. Why, because He has risen!
